Question –

 

I am a student of class 12th. I have been a bright student since childhood and always used to get good marks in my exam. I am 17 years old. I have been masturbating from the past 3 years. I masturbate about 5-6 times a month. But from last year I am feeling that my brain power has started to come down due to masturbation. I really get upset when I see my friends performing better and my performance going down.

 

It’s not that I do not study but I am not able to retain things for long and I am really depressed about this. I think that it is happening due to masturbation. I want to quit it completely because whenever I masturbate I feel guilty about it. Please suggest me some tips to get out of this depression and advice me some strong motivational books which I can read to get inspired.

Masturbation is perfectly normal. It does not cause memory disturbance. But the guilt associated with masturbation is causing you all these problems. According to a well known quote, “99% of men masturbate and rest of the 1% are liars”.

 

So u should understand that it is a very common thing, the friends you say who are performing better than you may also masturbate. So you have to get rid of the guilt to come out of your shell. For retaining things you have to revise over and over again. Success is 99% hard work and 1% luck.
 

 

You can try some of these simple methods to get out your shell:

 

1. Stop viewing and reading pornographic materials. You can try these tips for achieving it.


2. Allocate time to prayer if you are religious or meditation, daily. It will help you concentrate.


3. Do exercises like walking, swimming, casual jogging, or play any sport you like for 45 minutes daily.


4. Read books like the ‘Power of Positive Thinking’ by Norman Vincent Peale, Drive by Daniel H Pink etc.



If you are still not able to come out of your depression, you will need help from a psychiatrist/clinical psychologist.
