Question -

Hello, currently I am a 12th class student and will pass-out in 2015. My 10th class certificate says that I am in "general cast" category. But now I got OBC certificate, so now can I apply for JEE mains as OBC? Even my school teachers are unable to help me out. I am in a huge confusion and I don't want my JEE application to be rejected.

Expert Advice -

Well Sandeep, as far as the status of a person as OBC or for that matter falling in any other particular reserved category (SC, ST or OBC) is concerned; the certificate issued by the appropriate authority is valid one, irrespective of how that person is described in his academic record.

Therefore, if you have an OBC certificate, which has been issued by an appropriate authority i.e by the authority competent to issue the certificate (your Board of Examination), will be conclusive about your status as an OBC, unless it is proved that such certificate has been obtained by fraudulent means or misrepresentation of facts. So, Don’t worry about rejection of your JEE application and apply for it.

All the best
